![]() ![]() This may not be necessary for all ski builders but may be worth considering for the long term.Įven just a CNC drilling aid for those with cnc to spot drill all the holes to a particular binding model and boot sole length would be awesome. M5 inserts are available I have seen them. The templates also have the length measurements enabling you to adjust the template for various boot sole lengths. By specifying the desired boot center line and the boot sole length and having Monke圜AM compute the necessary offsets and adjustments you could do custom inserts to absolute precision.īinding Freedom templates have to be scaled on my printer to 106% to be accurate enough compared to my steel ruler. To really make this a reality I would suggest getting the Binding Freedom templates accurately measured up and each binding model hole pattern dimensions into a Monke圜AM binding database. Head Adrenalin note that Quiver Killer inserts are not compatible with this binding. Monke圜AM precision should enable us to make sure that insert holes and rebates are precisely drilled and with the alignment dowels the inserts would be bang on. Quiver Killer Mounting Screw Sets: B&D Ski Gear telemark ski crampon mounting bracket. My concern with placing inserts in skis is primarily with the accuracy of the core placement over the base to ensure end to end centering and alignment of the bindings. Quite time consuming to outfit a pair of skis with a full set but once you get the hang of it things speed up. I quiver killer insert a lot of skis, so thats an M5 insert like a helicoil basically. I.e., "Salomon, sole length 315mm, 1.5cm back from center". I'm asking, of course, so I can get Monke圜AM to place inserts for skis I can let people place random inserts all over the board relative to the center of the effective edge, but I'd like to make it easier than that. If you do inserts, how do you decide on the insert pattern? Is there a good one that works for a commonly used, adjustable (rental?) binding? Do you guys use adapter plates like I see at ? Or do you have a brand you personally love and you place inserts specifically for your favorite bindings and boot size? If you do classic mounting, what guiding marks do you need on the finished ski? I think it's just the center of the effective edge, but I'd like to confirm that. Quiver Killer Threaded Ski Binding Mounts. Quiver Killer makes and sells a facile do-it-yourself insert system. ![]() ![]() But I don't know if that's the snowboarder in my trying to apply the wrong technique. Quiver Killer installation from Kurt Withers. Quiver Killer inserts installed for Dynafit backcountry skiing binding toe unit. The one pair of skis I made we did classic drill & mount afterwards mostly because my buddy had no idea which bindings he was gonna use until we were almost done But had I known, personally I would have tried to put some inserts in there. how many people just drill and mount as usual afterwards? I think the added integrity to 7+ holes on that ski will over compensate for almost any issue you might find.I haven't paid too much attention to ski bindings over the years, so I want to ask: How many people go through the effort to include inserts in skis for their bindings vs. Start slow and progressively give it the gun in low consequence terrain until you have your confidence in your inserts. I give it the old 90-10 and think you are likely to be absolutely fine. That said, people have been skiing on spinners, slightly off center holes, and JB weld for decades. You can add milled fibers (fiber glass), graphene oxide, or carbon fibers to some epoxy to increase structural integrity. Force and how it plays with your fix will determine which fix is best. Seeing that force throughout the hole will vary a lot by which screw on the binding is attached. Multiply that by depth and the volume is a little exaggerated. Quiver Killers can be used to either allow you to use one binding with multiple skis or to put different bindings on the same ski. Everything you need for your first mount. moving from 5mm to 6mm in width is an area jump of about 75mm^2 to almost 115mm^2. Quiver Killers are threaded inserts for ski binding mounting holes that once installed & with the bindings screws exchanged for M5 machine screws, allow the bindings to be removed/reinstalled as often as you like just like snowboard bindings. Quiver Killer M6 binding inserts are installed into your skis allowing you to easily remove and swap bindings between skis with only a screw driver. ![]() 1mm isn't a ton, but in terms of the hole area and volume, it is a lot. Something else to think about would be to consider ordering a tap for the width you have on that one hole and add a fiber product to the epoxy or JB Weld mix if you are really worried. Digital calipers are in my binding install bag. I think that the rescue might be perfect in that you may have the perfect hole size for it, but without a caliper reading we cannot be sure. Qualification: I have only installed inserts on a half dozen pairs of skis but I grew up in a wood/car/machine shop. ![]()
